A very special place in the northern part of Groningen to me is Noordpolderzijl. Only a few kilometers north of Usquert, is the smallest seaport of the Netherlands. Tides here have free reign and only at high tide it is possible to sail in and out of this unique harbor. It was always the home to the Usquerder fleet, identified by the letter code UQ. Nowadays there are very few cutters in Noordpolderzijl. Most are now in Lauwersoog.

Noordpolderzijl is an oasis of peace and quiet, where you can come in from the bustle of everyday life, enjoying the wide views over the flats, and in the distance the Wadden Islands Schiermonnikoog, Rottumeroog, Rottumerplaat and the German island of Borkum.
There have been a few winters in which a large part of the Wadden Sea was frozen. And then the port of Noordpolderzijl is quite a special place!

To me it is a nice spot to "just to cleanse the mind".
